“We will continue her legacy” says Mrs. Teslimat Eradiri, daughter of the deceased

Saturday the 7th of September marked the 1st Memorial of the late Honorable Maryam Abubakar who transitioned from worldly life after a terminal illness in 2023.

To mark this day of her passing, the Olere Women Empowerment Initiative – a charitable foundation she laid and ran till her demise touched the lives of no fewer than 100 widows in Auchi with home essentials like rice, beans, and seasoning cubes.

Held at Iyetse Quarters -where she hailed from, the provision of food items was done by her Mentees and supporters who seek to continue in her footsteps to keep her legacy of charity and Humanitarian services alive.

This kind gesture was described by many as a tribute in honor of the life she lived with love for all as many described her as the helper of the helpless even in the event of her passing.

“Hajia Maryam Abubakar is a woman who until her death was deeply committed to the welfare of other women. She is known for her compassion and generosity and she dedicated much of her time to uplifting vulnerable women within her community.” said one of the beneficiaries.

Speaking to the importance of the event, Mrs. Amidat Ilegar Austine, one the facilitators of the event as put together by the Olere Women Empowerment Initiative noted that the gesture was inspired by Hajia Maryam’s unwavering commitment to empowering women and alleviating their struggles.

“Hajia Maryam was a woman who always put herself in the shoes of others, especially when it came to the struggles of women in our community.

“Her kindness and empathy were unmatched. We pray that she finds eternal rest and that her legacy of compassion continues to inspire us all.” she said.

Amidat told ABS that the event was put together by the Children of the late Hajia Maryam -noting that one of the children, Mrs. Teslimat Eradiri has assured of the continuity of their mother’s legacy.

The remembrance event did not only honor the memory of Hajia Maryam Abubakar but also highlighted the lasting impact she had on the lives of many women.

Through the Olere Women Empowerment Initiative, her spirit of generosity continues to touch lives, ensuring that her commitment to uplifting women remains kindled.

As the widows received the charitable donations, the community was reminded of the importance of compassion, empathy, and the power of giving in creating a better future for all.

Special Prayers were also said for the continuous repose of her soul.
