Auchi Ecological Concerns: “We need to Evacuate Residents before any Land Reclamation Exercise” -Edo DG

Hon. Omobayo Marvellous Godwins, Deputy Governor of Edo State has stated that there is an urgent need to evacuate and relocate residents of Oshiomole-Osomeke villages of Auchi Sacred Kingdom who are currently suffering from the dire consequences of Gullies in the area.

He stated this in the early hours of Saturday shortly after the 23rd Rainfall of the year in Auchi the Headquarters of Etsako West Local Government while on a visit to have a first hand view of the situation.

“Over 400 residents will be affected whether you like it or not.

“It is a natural disaster -an act of God and I feel so sorry for the people but as a government we must be proactive and think of what we can do that will resemble what you call quick-wins.

We will be coming back again tomorrow to do a proper assessment of the place.

“I think what’s best is to relocate these people.

“…that’s the immediate solution before we now think of reclamation of the land.” He said.

Noteworthy is that this is about the first time a Deputy of the state is visiting the gully ravaged Oshiomole-Osomeke villages in recent times and it is hoped that he would convey the urgency of the matter (of Ecological Concerns as have been observed) to the Governor for prompt action before the rains set in fully.
