In a recent move to arrest the growing trend of flagrant disregard for sanitation in parts of Auchi Sacred Kingdom , the authorities of Etsako West Local Government Area in Collaboration with the Auchi Sanitation Committee has sent a strong message to impress on residents and business owners that it will no longer be business as usual in ensuring a clean, safe and sustainable environment.
This is manifest in the patrol and enforcement of environmental sanitation conventions by a team of sanitation personnel headed by Chief Okusa Ainakhuagbor, head of EWLGA Sanitation Taskforce who doubles as the Sanitation Committee Chairman of Auchi as constituted by HRH, Alhaji Aliru H. Momoh, Ikelebe III, Otaru of Auchi Sacred Kingdom .
The team started the campaign by going through the Iyekhei Heritage zone of Auchi on Tuesday to spread the message of proper sanitation and the need for the people to imbibe the attitude of cleaningness with a view to ensuring that the community wears a sane look and went further to deter businesses along the tarred road from further generating and disposing waste indiscriminately.
Several persons whose surroundings were found unkept and unappealing for human activities were made to carry out a sanitation exercise to serve as a note of warning that the taskforce on sanitation has come to stay for good.
However, it is hoped that the community’s drive towards providing the requisite equipment for proper disposal of waste will soon pull through to enable residents and business owners have designated areas and dump sites where they can take their wastes to for off-taking.
Note that the theme of the year 2024 episode of Auchi Day Celebration of Allah was Tahara -meaning ‘to keep clean’. The unique event served as a veritable opportunity to seek funds with which to procure the needed sanitation equipment for the Auchi Sanitation Committee personnel to help keep Auchi Clean in collaboration with Etsako West Local Government Environmental Sanitation Department -whose responsibility it is to handle waste.
