Ecological Concerns: “We Cannot Continue to Subject Our Lives to this Kind of Life Threatening Risks” -Says Asue Ighodalo in Auchi
Dr. Asue Ighodalo the governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming Edo State Guba polls has expressed disdain over the spate of land degradation occasioned by water erosion in Parts of Auchi the Political Headquarters of Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo state.
He decried the damage done by gullies to major roads, farmlands and residential areas within the area when he visited the Auchi-Igarra Road gully -noting that the situation of the road had become precarious to the lives of commuters in the area.
Speaking to the urgent need to alleviate the sufferings of the people who now find it difficult to carry people and goods from one location to the next as a result of the ravaging gullies, Asue stated that he would put machineries in motion to work with national and international agencies relevant to land reclamation projects so that the gullies and their root causes would be attended.
In the interim he cautioned against the use of the Auchi-Igarra road by heavy-duty trucks so as to forestall any incidence of a landslide that would quickly cut the road in halvesand result in available loss of lives.
He enjoined community and local government authorities within to put in place measures to guide traffic in the area as it had become glaring that the condition of the road posed imminent danger to lives and properties if care is not taken.
Dr. Asue also visited the Oshionhole-Osomeke villages of Auchi on Sunday where he observed the wanton destruction to houses done and displacement left in the aftermath of ravaging gullies in the area.
He assured residents of the area of his genuine concern -noting that he will put in the requisite efforts and resources needed to right all that has gone wrong in the area once he is able to man the position of the first servant of Edo state with state resources.
