Edo 2024: Asamah Confirmed As LP Deputy Governorship Candidate
The Labour Party (LP) has confirmed Yusuf Asamah Kadiri as the running mate of its governorship candidate, Olumide Akpata, in the upcoming Edo State elections.
Gatekeepers News reports that Asamah, a native of Auchi, replaces Oluyinka Alufohai, who was initially announced as the running mate.
His confirmation follows a judgement delivered by the Federal High Court in Abuja which affirmed Asamah’s candidacy. The court ruled that the process of his nomination “over-complied” with the Constitution, Electoral Act, and Labour Party’s constitution.
The court ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to accept and process Asamah’s substitution and publish his name on the list of candidates.
INEC had listed Alufohai as the deputy governorship candidate, but Asamah has now officially been confirmed as the replacement.
