Kidnappers Demand N200 Million, Gun, and Release of Gang Members for Catholic Priest and Seminarian
In a shocking development, kidnappers who abducted Rev. Fr. Philip Ekeli, a Catholic priest, and Peter Andrew, a seminarian, have demanded a ransom of N200 million, a gun, and the release of two of their gang members in exchange for the victims’ freedom. The abduction took place on Monday night at St. Peter Catholic Church in Ivuikhwa, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State.
The kidnappers’ demands came to light after they established contact with the community. According to an anonymous resident who spoke to Vanguard Newspaper, the abductors are insisting on the release of two of their gang members who were apprehended during a confrontation with vigilantes and security operatives. One of the kidnappers was killed during the encounter, while another escaped with gunshot wounds and is believed to have died in the forest.
The resident stated, “I just confirmed from the village, they have opened communication, but they are demanding N200 million, a gun, and two of their gang members. You know one of their members was killed during the incident, and another escaped into the bush with injuries. That is the situation for now.”
The abduction has sent shockwaves through the community, with residents expressing fear and concern over the safety of the victims. The incident highlights the growing insecurity in the region, despite efforts by local vigilantes and security agencies to combat criminal activities.
