NOA, NDLEA Mark World Drug Day, Heightens Awareness Campaign to Combat Drug Related Crisis in Auchi

As the United Nations marked World Drug Day on Wednesday the 26th of June, the National Orientation Agency, Nigeria. in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA have held a one day event at the Etsako West Local Government Council Hall in Auchi to raise the awareness and campaign against the misuse of drugs.

The event which was tagged “The Evidence is Clear: Invest in Prevention” saw the presence of key stakeholders in the fight against the abuse and misuse of drugs who came to throw their weight behind the call for a renewed fight against the drug related war.

Chief amongst these stakeholders were security authorities, socio-cultural groups, community representatives, reps from private and public institutions as well as unions and youth based associations in and around Auchi Sacred Kingdom.

Mrs. Sharon Adebayo, Director at the NOA Office of Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State together with several other speakers during the drug abuse awareness exercise campaign x-rayed the correlation between substance misuse and indecent dressing.

Turn by turn, representatives of local health organizations, law enforcement authorities, and community leaders highlighted the downsides of drug abuse and how same affects social norms -including proper dress sense.

They stressed that substance abuse often impairs judgment and decision-making, contributing to behaviors that can undermine personal dignity and societal values -underscoring the campaign’s broader goal of educating the public on the multifaceted consequences of drug abuse beyond physical health impacts.

Through the insightful lectures and discussions, attendees gained deeper understanding of how drug abuse can influence behaviors such as indecent dressing, highlighting the importance of prevention and community support.

Moving forward, efforts to combat drug abuse must continue with renewed vigor, focusing on education, support systems, and fostering a culture of responsibility to safeguard our communities’ well-being.
