“Take me as your son, Take me as your brother” –Dr. Salisu Shehu Umar

Dr. Salisu Shehu Umar, the Substantive Rector of Auchi Polytechnic has informed all that he is a son of Auchi Sacred Kingdom, by virtue of his over 30 years stay in the community. As well as, his recognition and conferment of a Traditional Chieftaincy Title by HRH, Alhaji Aliru H. Momoh, Otaru of Auchi Sacred Kingdom as the Giwa (Friend) of Auchi.

 

He stated this during a reception of an Award of Excellence presented to him by Sons and Daughters of Iyekhei Community under the aegis of Auchi Dynamic Youths Association during the maiden edition of Iyekhei Festival/Award Day (IFAD2024) held at Iyekhei Primary School in Auchi the Headquarters of Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.

The Rector noted that he is no longer a stranger of the community having spent the most part of his life in Auchi –where he first came to as a Corps Member and later became in lecturer at the Department of Statistics who steadily and geometrically ascended the ranks to become the Rector of Auchi Polytechnic and thanks to his service to humanity was conferred with a Traditional Chieftaincy Title amongst other numerous Awards as force to reckon.

 

“Today by Allah’s Grace, I am the Giwa of Auchi Sacred Kingdom. With that I want to state here clearly that very soon, my first son shall be doing his Age Group Ceremony with his age mates in Iyekhei Heritage Village.

 

“Take me as your son, take me as your brother.” the Rector said as his words echoed a desire for mutual respect and solidarity within the community, transcending traditional roles and fostering a sense of kinship among neighbors.

 

The atmosphere was charged with a shared sense of purpose as attendees listened intently to the Rector’s call for collective responsibility and compassion.

 

“We are all part of this community, bound by shared values and aspirations. Let us all play our part.” he said, emphasizing the importance of embracing diversity and celebrating the strengths that each individual brings.

    Thinking aloud, the word GIWA means what?
    Reading through… It seems the writer said Giwa means friend. In the first paragraph, last line fourth and fifth words.
    Can someone assist to lecture me/us on this.
    In Auchi dialect the meaning of the word Giwa?
