The Auchi Sanitation Committee, in conjunction with the local government, has launched a campaign to combat littering and waste disposal issues in the central business district of the town. The campaign began with awareness and public announcements, and offenders who fail to clean up their surroundings face fines.
The Sanitation Committee has made it clear that this new initiative is not meant to be punitive, but rather to encourage citizens to take responsibility for their surroundings. Chairperson of the Sanitation Committee, Chief Okusa Ainakhuagbo, Daudu of Igiebor village and Chairman of Auchi Sanitation Committee who doubles as Chairman Etsako West Sanitation Taskforce, stated, “We want to make sure that our streets are clean and safe for everyone. That’s why we’re taking this step. We hope that the community will understand and support our efforts.”
In an effort to ensure that everyone complies with the new initiative, the Sanitation Committee has announced that those who fail to clean the area in front of their drainages by 10:00 AM will face fines. Chief Okusa Ainakhuagbo explained that “We’re serious about making our streets cleaner, and that means everyone needs to do their part. We hope that the threat of fines will encourage people to take their responsibility seriously.” The Committee has made it clear that they will be conducting regular inspections to ensure compliance with the new rules.
The Sanitation Committee’s new campaign is a sign of the town’s commitment to improving the quality of life for its citizens. With fines in place for those who don’t comply, it remains to be seen whether the initiative will be successful in reducing littering and waste disposal issues in the town.
