AUCHI POLYTECHNIC: CGS, WITED Mark World Intl. Women’s Day, Advocate for Equal Opportunities 

 

With the Theme, ‘Invest in Women, Accelerate Progress’, the world marked 8th of March 2024 with an advocacy for the rights of women from all walks of life.

 

In Auchi Polytechnic, a group of female staff under the aegis of ‘Women in Technical Education’ (WITED) in collaboration with the institution’s Center for Gender Studies made the day memorable through rights advocacy rallies around the various areas and departments of the institution as well as holding lectures with a view to underscoring the importance of women in the current realities of human existence.

 

Flaunting banners with the inscriptions “EQUAL RIGHTS FOR ALL”, “RESPECT FOR WOMEN!”, the event as organized by the Staff Union of Auchi Polytechnic which comprise key stakeholders of the Polytechnic dealt emphatically on issues around and about respect, rights, equality and all such virtues that create healthy work places and spaces -demonstrating the solidarity, resilience, strength and the beauty of women as keynote speaker after keynote speaker brought to fore the nitty gritty of World Women’s Day during the roundtable discussion that held at the Auditorium in Area 1.

 

“Gender inequality refers to the unequal treatment and opportunities between men and women, based on their gender. It can manifest in a variety of ways, such as unequal pay, unequal access to education and healthcare, limited access to economic opportunities, and a lack of representation in leadership positions.

“Additionally, it can also lead to harmful gender stereotypes and discrimination in the workplace and in society at large”. Said, Dr. Helen Uhumhago during a presentation.

 

She noted that it was not the exclusive job of the world to place women on an equal pedestal with their counterparts -stating that women on their part must put in the requisite efforts (considering their strength and all) in gaining the respect they truly deserve.

 

Highpoint of the event was the presentation of Awards to deserving top management staff of the Polytechnic who have contributed to advancing the course of Women in Technical Education as presented by the Centre for Gender Studies.

The Rector, Dr. S.S. Umar was decorated as Gender Equality Champion while the Deputy Rector Admin, Registrar and Polytechnic Librarian (all women) made the list of 4 who were honored.

 

It was a remarkable event that echoed the importance of according equal opportunities for all -considering the uniqueness of women and their proclivity towards nation building.
